Product Description

Christmas Matters: Political correctness! Politics played a part in the very first Christmas. The most powerful man in the world, Caesar Augustus, had decreed that all the world was to be taxed. This resulted in Joseph and Mary, nearing the birth of her child, having to make the arduous journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The census meant the recording of their names so that taxes would be paid. Political correctness today has turned full circle and wants to remove a name from Christmas by crossing out the Christ! Thirty three years afer His birth political and religious leaders gave their verdict on Jesus and out Him on a cross outside the city of Jerusalem. Don't let anyone cross Christ out of your Christmas! Commercial opportunity! Hotel and restaurant business will be booming at Christmas. It was like that when Mary and Joseph arrived at Bethlehem. The town was seething with people and all the places of accommodation were full. Everywhere they went they were told, ¨No vacancies.¨ When the birth of the Son of God took place, Mary laid Him in a cattle manger because there was no room for them anywhere in the town. It was different for a certain group of shepherds who put their commercial interests on hold because they had been told that very day that the Saviour had been born. Will you make room for the Saviour in your heart and home this Christmas? Astronomical appearance! It is certain fireworks will be lighting up the sky and in many places there will be elaborate displays of lights around houses and trees reminding us it is Christmas time. Long ago it was a bright solitary star that heralded th birth of the Lord Jesus. It appeared in the east and led wise men to Jesus. They recognized He was a great King in their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. They fell down and worshipped Him as God manifest in flesh. His appearance not only at Bethlehem, but to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself at Calcary, was far more significant than a star in the heavens! Personal fulfillment! Many children and maybe some adults too, will be anticipating that at Christmas they will receive waht they have been hoping and waiting for, perhaps for months. The coming of the Son of God into the world was the fulfillment of many predictions made centuries before and recorded in Old Testament scriptures. All details were fulfilled to the letter when Jesus was born! It was also the fulfillment of a lifetime of waiting for a man called Simeon. He had been told he would not depart this life until he had seen the Lord's Christ. The day came when he lifted the child Jesus in his arms and said ¨Now let Thy servant depart in peace for my eyes have seen Thy salvation.¨ You too can have peace about leaving this life, if through faith you receive salvation in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Find fulfillment for your life today by believing in Christ as Lord and confessing him as your Saviour. Ian Steele
