Text of the tract

“Must we become Protestants in order to be saved?”

“No, Dave, not at all. It would be a waste of time to try and convert you to Protestantism.”

“But, Mike, do you believe that the Roman or the Greek Catholic Church can save?”

“No.”

“Well, I am a Roman Catholic and Joan here is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, neither of which you say can save. You are a Protestant. Do you want us to become Protestants?”

“I do not. I have never asked any Catholic, Greek or Roman, to become a Protestant.”

“I don’t understand, Mike. Don’t you believe that Protestantism can save?”

“No Dave, I don’t. Protestantism has no more power to save than Catholicism has.”

“If they can’t save us, how can we be saved?”

“I repeat, Dave, neither the Roman Catholic church, the Greek Orthodox church, the Protestant church nor any other church can save you or Joan. No church can save, but – the Lord Jesus Christ can. You are saved, not by the Church, either Catholic or Protestant, but through a Person – the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son.”

“Can it be possible! Joan and I never heard this before!”

“It would do you and Joan no good to become Protestants, for there are thousands, perhaps millions of Protestants who are not saved. They call themselves Christians, but they have never accepted the Christ of Christianity.”

“Is that why we have not found peace, Mike? Is there no peace in Catholicism?”

“No, Dave, and none in Protestantism either. Peace is only found in Jesus. Religion cannot save; Christ can.”

“Are you sure?”

“God says, Neither is there salvation in any other [Protestant or Catholic]: for there is none other name [Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, or Protestant] under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.1 Thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He [not the Catholic priest nor the Protestant minister, but Jesus Christ] shall save His people from their sins.”2

“What then must we do?”

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.3 As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God.”4

“And will He receive us?”

“God promises, Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.5 He loves you. Yes, He died to save you. Come, accept Him; trust His atoning death. Receive Him now as your Saviour, for He will have mercy and abundantly pardon.”

Amen, amen I say unto you, that he who heareth My word, and believeth Him that sent Me, hath life everlasting; and cometh not into judgment, but is passed from death to life.6 (Douay Translation.)

For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God; not of works, that no man may glory.7 (Douay Translation.)
